On September 20, the President of the Akhara Parishad Shri Mahant Narendra Giri had become Brahmalin. After his sudden demise, the Vice-Chairman of the Council, Devendra Singh Shastri, is conducting the functions of the Council as the Acting President. There is constant pressure from the Akharas to select a new president. There is a competition for the post of president in all the 13 akhadas including the srimants, mahamandaleshwars and khals. Many akhadas are advocating for re-election of the entire executive committee, while the current executive has been elected this year. The term of the executive is till 2026. In such a situation, the selection of the chairman of the council has to be done only on the vacant post.
In a conversation with Amar Ujala, General Secretary of Akhara Parishad, Shri Mahant Harigiri said that the new president will be selected from the ancient tradition. Brahmaleen Narendra Giri was the shrimahant of Shri Niranjani Akhara. Therefore, the first right of the new president will be of the saints of Shri Niranjani Akhara. Who is to be made the president, the proposal will be given by the saints of Shri Niranjani Akhara. Shri Mahant Ravindrapuri, Secretary of Shri Niranjani Akhara and President of Maa Mansa Devi Trust, is at the forefront of this race.
Shri Mahant Ravindrapuri has played an important role in the coronation on the throne of Prayagraj Baghambari Peeth and Lete Hanuman temple. According to General Secretary Shri Mahant Harigiri, a meeting has been called on October 25 at Taponidhi Shri Niranjani Akhara Daraganj in Prayagraj to announce the name of the president. The agenda for the meeting and the selection of the new president has been sent to all the 13 akhadas. By Thursday evening, seven akhadas have given their consent to the ancient tradition.
Confusion over attending the meeting of three Bairagi Akharas
There are 26 members in the executive
The Executive Council of the Akhara Parishad consists of 26 members apart from the President and the General Secretary. They consist of 2-2 representatives from each arena. If the Bairagi three Akharas will not be involved in the proposed meeting in Prayagraj, then there will be a brainstorming on the future of their members in the current executive committee.
There is a tussle for the chair of the council president. 108 saints, Mahamandaleshwars and Khalsas have sent me letters expressing their desire to become president. In such a situation, the new president will be announced in Prayagraj on October 25 from the ancient tradition itself.
