Bollywood’s Umrao Jaan i.e. Rekha was born on 10 October 1954 in Chennai. Rekha’s full name is Bhanurekha Ganesan. Today Rekha is celebrating her 66th birthday. Rekha’s father’s name was Jaimini Ganesan and mother’s name was Pushpavalli. His father was a Tamil actor and mother was a Telugu actress.
Rekha appeared as a child artist in the Telugu film Rangula Ratlam, in which her name was Baby Bhanurekha. She made her debut as a heroine in 1969 with the successful Kannada film Operation Jackapat Nalli CID 999 in which her hero was Rajkumar. In the same year his first Hindi film Anjana Safar was released.
She has won the Filmfare Award thrice, twice for Best Actress and once for Best Supporting Actress in films like Khoobsurat, Khoon Bhari Maang and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. She has also received the National Film Award for Best Actress for Umrao Jaan. In 2010, he was also awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
Rekha has acted in more than 180 films in her career spanning 40 years.
