Ibha has been made the mascot of the FIFA U-17 World Women’s World Cup.

FIFA on Monday unveiled ‘Ibha’, the official mascot of the U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in India in 2022. Ibha is the Asiatic lioness who represents female power. According to a release issued by FIFA, Ibha aims to inspire women and girls across India and around the world to realize their potential. The tournament will be organized in India from October 11 to 30 next year. The mascot was announced on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child.

“Ibha is a strong, playful and charming Asiatic lioness whose purpose is to inspire and encourage women and girls through teamwork, resilience, kindness and empowering others,” said FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, Sarai Bereman. Apart from this, the meaning of his name is one who makes good decisions when translated into Khasi. Hope Ibha inspires girls in India and across the world to make the right decisions and achieve their full potential.

“Ibha is a truly exciting and inspiring character that young fans in India and around the world will enjoy ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India next year. 2022 is certainly an extremely important year for women’s football. The future stars of the game are set to showcase their skills in India – nine months before the start of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Praful Patel, President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, said, “The unveiling of the official mascot Ibha is another milestone in the path of hosting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022. Ibha epitomizes courage and strength which are the core qualities of every woman, as well as the vibrancy and visionary spirit of the tournament.
