New Delhi. The central government has given a clarification amid concerns expressed by many states of the country including Delhi over the blackout. The Coal Ministry on Sunday made it clear that the country has sufficient reserves of coal to meet the requirement of power generating plants. The ministry termed the apprehensions of power supply disruption due to shortage of coal as completely baseless.
Earlier there were reports that due to shortage of coal, there could be a power crisis in the country. After this this statement of the ministry has come. The ministry said in a statement, “The Ministry of Coal assures that the country has sufficient reserves of coal to meet the requirement of the power plant. Because of this, the apprehension of power crisis is completely wrong.”

Coal India has 43 million tonnes of stock
Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi tweeted, “Reviewed the status of production and supply of coal in the country. I want to assure everyone that there is no possibility of interruption in power supply. Coal India has 43 million tonnes of coal reserves at its headquarters, which is equivalent to 24 days’ coal demand.

The Coal Ministry said that the power plant has coal reserves of about 7.2 million tonnes, which is enough for four days. Coal India has reserves of 400 lakh tonnes, which is being supplied to the power plant.
Coal based power production up by 24% till September
It is noteworthy that the coal-based power generation in the country has grown by 24 per cent till September this year. Production has increased due to better supply to the power plant. The power plant requires an average of 18.5 lakh tonnes of coal per day. The daily coal supply is around 17.5 lakh tonnes.
