In the T20 World Cup, India will start their campaign against their arch-rivals Pakistan on 24 October. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has selected Team India’s playing XI for the match against Pakistan. They have not included veteran spinner Ravichandran in the team. Gambhir has replaced Ashwin with mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty in the team. The selectors surprised everyone by choosing Ashwin in the 15-man team India selected for the T20 World Cup. Ashwin has not played T20 International for four years.
During a discussion on Star Sports show Follow the Blues, Gambhir picked KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma as openers in his playing XI. He selected Team India captain Virat Kohli at number three. Suryakumar Yadav at No. 4, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant at No. 5. He picked Hardik Pandya at number 6, Ravindra Jadeja at number seven. He picked India’s fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar at number 8.

Gambhir picked mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty at number 9, Mohammed Shami at number 10 and Jasprit Bumrah at number 11. As a spinner, Gambhir chose only Varun. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have been given place as all-rounders. He also said that if Shardul Thakur was a part of the Indian team, he would have replaced Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Shardul is among the reserve players selected for the T20 World Cup.
