Tissue culture lab developed three improved sugarcane species

Najibabad (Bijnor). The tissue culture lab of Sugar Mill Najibabad will soon provide three new improved varieties of sugarcane seeds to the farmers. The lab has set a target of producing 1.5 lakh sugarcane seeds by March 2022.
The Tissue Culture Lab at Kisan Sahakari Sugar Mills, Najibabad has been a pioneer among cooperative sugar mills in developing sugarcane varieties. Tissue culture lab was established in the year 1995-96, since then the lab has given many excellent varieties of sugarcane by setting various dimensions of sugarcane development plan. Recently, three improved varieties of sugarcane have been developed by the Tissue Culture Lab under the direction of Danveer Singh, Principal Manager, Sugar Mill, CCO Dr. SS Dhaka.
Tissue culture lab in-charge Sukhvir Kumar informed about the development of latest sugarcane varieties CO 15023, CO 0118 and COS 13235 sugarcane varieties in the project currently being run by the lab. All the latest varieties of sugarcane are completely disease free. The lab aims to make available 1.5 lakh sugarcane seeds to the farmers by March 2022, of the latest varieties which have the potential to give the best production of sugarcane.
The meristem part is taken from the sugarcane agglomeration and after growing the seed in the lab at about 25 degree Celsius temperature, it is sent to the poly house. Presently more than 20 thousand sugarcane seed plants of different sugarcane species are available in the poly house. It takes about 11 months to prepare the latest variety of sugarcane. Sugarcane seeds from sugarcane research institutes are being developed at their sugarcane farm in Najibabad.
The cost of sugarcane seed per plant is one rupee
Najibabad. Tissue culture lab prepared sugarcane seeds of sugar mills are made available to farmers at the rate of Re 1 per plant. In the first year, farmers prepare the seeds in their fields. Farmers increase their income by producing sugarcane on a large scale when there is enough seed.
Tissue culture lab gave many improved species
Najibabad. The sugarcane varieties developed by Tissue Culture Lab are the improved sugarcane varieties in terms of production of CO 0238, COS 08272, COS 3234 and COS 96268. After a long circulation, COS 96268 has been banned for some time before being an old species.
