Tissue Culture Lab Prepares Disease Free Cane Plant

The Tissue Culture Lab of Najibabad Sugar Mill in Najibabad has started a campaign to prepare the seeds of the prevalent sugarcane species without disease. The lab has advised farmers to sow disease-free sugarcane varieties in place of the old sugarcane varieties that have lost their genetic potential by giving disease-free sugarcane varieties. The sugar mill has developed about two lakh disease free sugarcane varieties.
The Tissue Culture Lab of Farmers Co-operative Sugar Mill, Najibabad has developed new plants of this species to make sugarcane species CO-0118, CO-0238 disease-free to increase sugarcane production and sugar yield. The Tissue Culture Lab has also developed plants of new sugarcane varieties VSI 435 and COH-160 in the lab.
Under the direction of Danveer Singh, Principal Manager of Sugar Mill, one lakh 89 thousand 550 saplings have been prepared in the campaign to develop disease-free sugarcane species, which was carried out from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019 under the direction of Dr. RN Dwivedi, Consultant of Tissue Culture Lab. . The sugar mill is providing Tissue Culture Lab one rupee to the sugarcane farmers and seven rupees per disease-free sugarcane sapling to other farmers.
Tissue culture lab in-charge and consultant Dr. RN Dwivedi informed that old and new sugarcane species developed in the lab will reach the sugar mill as a crop after three years. Older sugarcane varieties are prone to diseases due to their age, which is reducing their production and sugar layers. He informed that farmers are developing disease-free sugarcane species from tissue culture labs to farmers in their fields. According to Dr.YN Dwivedi, the main objective of Tissue Culture Lab is to cultivate new sugarcane species, prepare disease free sugarcane beech and revive disease free useful sugarcane species through tissue culture system.
